About Emo Society

Emo is a community organization that has tasked itself to integrate challenges facing pastoralist communities in the Rift Valley and find common and sustainable solutions.

EMO was founded in the year 2001 by a group of like-minded individuals who used to meet together in Nairobi to pray and share life experiences and challenges of urbanization and those facing their communities in the rural areas.

EMO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY was transformed from the then fellowship group to a fully-fledged institution, with networks covering the whole of the former Rift Valley province.

Although EMO was started as a Christian Organization and still identifies itself as one, the organization is non-denominational, non-discriminatory and non-partisan. EMO is a community driven organization with spiritual, economic and social concerns targeting not only the communities within and without the Rift Valley, but also open to new membership, within and without Kenya.

Background Information

Prior to the registration of the society in 2006, a major re-organization was undertaken to create different arms targeted at addressing the various objectives of the organization. In doing so, ECDS was set up to become the umbrella body, Emo Fellowship was created as a department of the society to deal with spiritual matters as well as to act as the mobilizing arm, Emo Investments became the investment arm while Emo Foundation – the charity arm.

Emo Community Development Society (ECDS)

ECDS is the umbrella body of Emo. In order to participate in Emo programs, one must first register as a member of the society. As a member therefore, one will have access to investing in its investments arm – Emo Investments and can also get direct benefits from the programs of the Foundation.

Emo is founded and established on the word of God.

God created the universe by His word, He spoke and it became. By embracing the word of God therefore, Emo communities welcome God into their affairs, social ethics, their economics, their societies and their very existence.

The Unity of Emo communities is critical in their economic, social and cultural empowerment. The Emo song captures graphically the unity envisioned in Emo communities. The song based on Psalms 133:3 says “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity”.

Emo strives to empower people through Knowledge.

Indeed knowledge is the greatest asset for man’s survival. God said “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge”. The emerging economies and economies of tomorrow are based on the cliché “Knowledge Economy”.

The subject of Wealth is the most interesting topic in the world.

Emo believes that the humility and the fear of God is the real source of wealth. It is not in corruption or robbery. We advocate for wealth acquired through righteous and upright work. Emo promotes a just and fair system of wealth creation.
